Therefore, I will be extensively reviewing Timeless and SkinCeuticles vitamin C serum to give an in-depth review about these two famous vitamin C serums and give you a choice on which to go for.
But before we proceed, let’s know what vitamin C is, (for those who don’t really know about it).

What Is Vitamin C.

At this point, vitamin C needs no introduction, it has been the most raved skincare vitamin in the skincare world. But if you’re new to vitamin C, then know that vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which neutralizes and fends-off internal and external free radicals from sun exposure and environmental aggressors, due to this fact, it also extends its potentials to enhancing the skin’s radiance and adds luminosity thereby tackling skin pigmentation issues such as dark spots, acne scars, sun spots and melasma. It also delivers anti-aging benefits to the skin by boosting collagen production which minimizes wrinkles, fine lines and improve overall skin texture.

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic vitamin C serum has been in existence for a very long time, Infact, it’s an old-school vitamin C, launched in 2005.
This formula contains 15% vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid), along side other potential skincare ingredients such as 1% vitamin E and 0.5% Ferulic acid.

  • Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol): is a pure form of vitamin E which neutralizes free radicals, replenishes skin lipids, help nourish and protect your skin from damages caused by free radicals. Vitamin E also helps extends the potentials of vitamin C as it serves as the primary defense against potentially harmful oxidation reactions.
  • Ferulic Acid: This potent vitamin C formula also contains 0.5% Ferulic acid; a plant-based antioxidant which neutralizes free radicals and enhances the antioxidant benefits and stability of vitamins C and E. Ferulic acid as an antioxidant works to boost the effects of other antioxidants. When used in skin care products, it helps to protect overall skin integrity by reducing the development of fine lines, spots, wrinkles and neutralizes free-radical damages from pollution, ultraviolet light, or infrared radiation. So technically asides from delivering antioxidant potentials to your skin, ferulic acid helps enhances the potential-effect and stability of vitamin C, E (and other antioxidants) from quick oxidization. That is to say when used in conjunction with other antioxidants, ferulic acid has the ability to potentiate them and make them more stable.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid also known as sodium hyaluronate, is a moisture magnet ingredient that attracts and binds to water molecules and increases the water content of the skin, It can absorb more than 1,000 times its weight in water to sufficiently hydrate the skin.

Packaging.

Timeless Vs SkinCeuticles Vitamin C Serum

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic is well packaged. It comes in a dark brown glass bottle to protect the vitamin C serum from direct sunlight which is one of the factors that oxidizes (or degrades) vitamin C.

Inside the bottle is a dropper for dispensing the serum into the palm of your hand or on your face for application.

Texture.

Timeless Vs SkinCeuticles Vitamin C Serum

Texture is light-weight in consistency (just like water), it absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a residue behind. Doesn’t feel greasy or heavy on the skin and doesn’t dry out the skin either.

Acid pH Level.

  • pH – 2.5-3.0

Scent.

Smells like hot dog but not horrible.
The scent subsides pretty quickly after it absorbs, but following this product with a nice-smelling serum or moisturizer also helps counteract the smell.

Color.

Timeless Vs SkinCeuticles Vitamin C Serum

SkinCeuticles C E Ferulic has a bright yellowish color. At first when I opened the bottle I freaked out thinking it has oxidized, but when I asked long-term users, they told me that’s how the color is.

It’s said the reason for the yellowish color was because of its Ferulic acid content, and it all makes sense because ferulic acid serum takes a golden orange color.

However, because of this yellowish color makes it difficult to tell when the vitamin C serum has oxidized (gone bad). But If the color of your serum begins to turn darker (from clear/yellow to dark brown or orange), then know that it has oxidized and less effective.

Shelf-Life Duration.

According to skinCeuticles, the C E Ferulic vitamin C serum stays stable and effective for 36 months and up to 6 months after opening.

Just like SkinCeuticles brand, Timeless skincare brand has been in dedication to producing standard skincare products to address people’s skin concerns and their vitamin C isn’t an exception.

Just like SkinCeuticles, Timeless vitamin C serum contains similar ingredients which are; 20% vitamin C, to counteract external and internal free radicals, brighten skin tone, thereby addressing pigmentations, boost collagen production which in turn minimizes skin aging-signs.

It also contains 1% vitamin E, a powerful vitamin and antioxidant which neutralizes free radicals, replenishes skin lipids, help nourish and protect your skin from damages caused by free radicals, and 0.5% Ferulic acid which not only offer anti-aging benefits to your skin but also helps enhances the potentials and stability of other antioxidants for more efficacy and better results.

It also contains sodium hyaluronate (a salt form derivative of hyaluronic acid) which helps hydrate the skin by attracting moisture from the outmosphere into the skin to keep the skin hydrated, plump and supple.

Packaging.

Timeless Vs SkinCeuticles Vitamin C Serum

The packaging is luxurious and fancy. It comes in an air-tight pump and yellow-tinted container for easy dispensing. Previously, Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic acid serum came in a bottle with a dropper (just like regular vitamin C serums) but due to easy oxidization of vitamin C when exposed to air, made them change the packaging by adopting the air-tight pump and yellow-tinted container not only to protect the liquid gold in the container, but also for easy usage.

All you have to do is gently press the pump to dispense the amount you need to apply.

Texture is super light-weight and thin (just like water) feels hydrating on the skin as it absorbs quickly without leaving any iota of residue behind.

  • pH – 2.4

Scent.

Has a faint citrus smell.

Why Is SkinCeuticles Vitamin C more Expensive?.

Well, that was exactly my question when I can across the SkinCeuticles vitamin C serum. I was like, “isn’t a whopping $166 not too much for a serum?” Well, I don’t know about you, but to me, that’s a lot for a liquid in a bottle. But after some rigorous research, I had to give it the benefit of doubt.

It is said that due to years of intensive research and studies undergone to the formulation of the SkinCeuticles vitamin C serum led to the exorbitant price.

This famous vitamin C serum was launched in 2005 after 40 years of profuse academic research. That’s not all, ever since its launch this beloved serum has been backed by over 20 international dermatological publications that speaks to its safety and efficacy. These publications are peer-reviewed, which gave more credibility and reputability to this vitamin C serum. And this goes a long way to answer people’s curious question on why its really expensive.

But then I thought to myself, wasn’t research made before producing Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic acid serum too? Maybe the years of research wasn’t as enormous as compared to that of SkinCeuticles. But never the less Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid serum has proven effective and does the job perfectly that’s why everyone (whom has used it) is raving about it and see it as a good comparison and dupe to SkinCeuticles.

And we believe with time, so many international dermatological publications will also be attributed to this wonderful serum.

My Review & Results On Timeless Vs SkinCeuticles Vitamin C Serum.

With similar ingredients list, both SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic and Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic acid serum kept their formulas very simple. asides antioxidants, they both have sodium hyaluronate to hydrate skin which is wonderful.

Both are great vitamin C serums. Potent and offers antioxidants potentials to the skin. In my test experiment, I applied both serum on each of my cheeks. (Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid serum on the left cheek, while SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic on the right side). They both made an impact on my skin texture and radiance.

For example: My leftover acne scars on my both cheeks appeared much lighter in appearance. I noticed both skin area looked more plump and glowy. My skin texture (on my cheeks area) looked more better, plump and firm. I used both serums in day-time and night-time on each cheek to get a precise review. I don’t forget to apply my sunscreen during the day, so you shouldn’t too. It’s very important in your skincare routine.

I wholeheartedly recommend any of these serums if you want to enjoy the potentials of vitamin C to your skin. Both serums does what they promised, just that the difference is, one contains 15% vitamin C at a high price tag while the other contains 20% vitamin C at a much lower (budget-friendly) price.

My Final Verdict On Timeless Vs SkinCeuticles Vitamin C Serum.

Both vitamin C serums are wonderful and recommendable.
Both has similar ingredients but different price tag. The price tag difference between the two is huge, but from my carried out experiment, I came to the conclusion that Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid serum is a good and recommendable alternative to SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic.

Therefore if you want to purchase any of these two and you’re on tight-budget, you can go for Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid serum. But if you prefer SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic and your budget can handle the price, then go ahead, as SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic worths every penny of your money.

The bottom line is, both are effective and potent, just the price difference separates them. Vitamin C serum oxidizes so fast — so, if you can’t stand to spend $166 every 2-3 months on vitamin C serum, then go for a better alternative which is at $25.

Update.

The Timeless skincare brand has unleashed their new 10% vitamin C serum. This is for those who are too sensitive to their 20% vitamin C serum. You can now enjoy the skin-benefits of vitamin C serum in a lower concentration to avoid possible occurrence of irritation on senstive skin due to L-ascorbic acid’s acidic nature.

Possible Questions & Answers.

Q: Does These Two Vitamin C Serum Sting?

A: As regards to L-ascorbic acid being an acidic form of vitamin C definitely you should expect a mild sting. However, Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid serum stung a bit. This feeling is most likely to occur if your skin is new to L-ascorbic acid form of vitamin C, however with time your skin will get accustomed to it and build tolerance you won’t be having the mild sting feeling anymore. As for SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic I felt no sting at all, maybe because it has a lower concentration of L-ascorbic acid (15%). But that doesn’t justify if it will sting or not, remember skin differs and I have an oily skin.

So, if you have super-sensitive skin, you may consider going for SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic which has a lower concentration of vitamin C.

If you have an extremely sensitive skin, and you think your skin can’t handle L-ascorbic acid form of vitamin C, then you can go with other mild non-acidic form of vitamin C serum such as; Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate. Read more about them.

Q: Are these vitamin C serums suitable to sensitive skin?

A: Well, from my observation they weren’t harsh on my skin, just that Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid serum stung a little bit while SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic didn’t. But the mild stinging effect wasn’t horrible and will definitely stop when your skin get used and build tolerance to the serum (just like mine did). So, I will advice you to never neglect to do a patch test first prior to usage.

Q: Can I apply a sunscreen after applying any of these vitamin C serums during the day?

A: Yes of course, vitamin C helps fights and ward-off free radicals, while sunscreen protects your skin from the wicked UV rays of the sun. You wouldn’t want to ruin your skincare-efforts right?. Not to mention vitamin C serum helps potentiate the effectiveness of your sunscreen.

Q: How do I extend my vitamin C shelf-life?

A: First of all, do well to store your vitamin C serum in a cool dry place with the lid tightly closed. Ensure to avoid exposing it to a direct sunlight or heat (of any kind). To extend the shelf-life even the more, store your vitamin C serum in a refrigerator.

Q: How did you apply these vitamin C serums?

A: I cleanse my face with a mild facial cleanser, I don’t towel-off completely, I leave my face moist, then I apply my facial toner, after that, I move on to apply each of the vitamin C serums on each cheek, I massage gently till fully absorbed. Then I seal off with a moisturizer.

Q: How soon will I see results?.

A: Both vitamin C serums are effective and potent and as such you’ll start seeing brighter skin in just a week (with best results after 4 weeks).

Disclaimer: This is a personal experience with SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic and Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum, you may have a whole different experience as skin type differs so as result differs too.
