The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution will make it the second ethyl ascorbic acid-based vitamin C serum I’ve used so far, after using the one from FaceTheory brand – Regena C20 Serum. And honestly speaking my skin enjoyed the vitamin C serum after five (5) weeks of everyday use (both AM and PM).

When I ran out of the FaceTheory Regena C20 Serum, I decided to try out something new, which led me to purchase The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% solution, which contains the same ethyl ascorbic acid, however 5% lesser than that of FaceTheory’s brand – (15%).

So, I purchased this vitamin C derivative-based serum, used it for five (5) weeks, both morning (AM) and night (PM), to know for sure if it will continue the good work.

For those who are new to ethyl ascorbic acid, know that it’s a vitamin C derivative, also known as 3-O-Ethyl-L-ascorbic. It’s the most recent derivative of vitamin C, where L-ascorbic acid is combined with an Ethyl group molecule, bound to the third carbon position. This makes vitamin C gentle on the skin, very stable and soluble in both water and oil. Thus making ethyl ascorbic acid vitamin C suitable for every skin type.

The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution comes well packaged in a dark-tinted glass bottle, with a dropper for dispensing product-content.

Texture.

The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid review

Just like the one from the FaceTheory brand, The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid vitamin C serum has a dry-oil texture, which feels slightly greasy, accompanied with a warm sensation when applied on the skin. but doesn’t leave skin feeling greasy after absorption. All you need to do is, gently massage till fully absorbed and don’t apply too much. 2-3 drops is sufficient for the whole face and neck, a little goes a long way. (But you can apply more if need be).

The reason for the oily feeling is because of the presence of propanediol – a solvent and humectant which is used to dissolve skincare ingredients and also hydrates the skin.

Colour.

The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid review

The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid vitamin C serum has a clear and transparent colour.

It’s a vitamin C derivative which is known for its reputation of being most stable and potent which doesn’t make it oxidize just like L-ascorbic acid does.

My Honest Review On The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution.

The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid review

Like I previously stated, I switched from the FaceTheory Regena C20 Serum (which also contains ethyl ascorbic acid) to The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid vitamin C serum because I ran out. Therefore, in order to test something new, I decided to plunge into The Ordinary’s ethyl ascorbic acid-based vitamin C serum.

I put this vitamin C serum to the test for five (5) weeks of constant use both morning (AM) and night (PM) and I’m glad to reveal to you guys that the good work was surely continued.

The good results I got from the FaceTheory Regena C20 Serum still continued with The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution as my skin texture and complexion was impressive. Skin complexion looked all bright and radiant, while skin texture remained refined, smooth and firm.

The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid review

Now I can confidently say that my skin really love ethyl ascorbic acid, and I’m not surprised because this next generation vitamin C derivative is both water and oil soluble which greatly impacts its good penetration abilities into the deeper layer of the skin to deliver its potentials (unlike L-ascorbic acid).

So, I’m glad I tested the ethyl ascorbic acid-based vitamin C serum from The Ordinary brand, as it was money well spent. Therefore, if you’re sitting on the fence, bemused on whether or not you should purchase this vitamin C serum, I recommend you should, your skin may thank you for it.

In Conclusion.

The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid review

My experience with The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution was a good one, and I never regret purchasing it and putting it to the test, because it definitely gave my skin what it deserves by keeping it radiant and youthful. Endeavor to always wear sunscreen during the day before stepping outside to protect the skin from the UV rays of the sun – remember the sun is the devil (read how to properly apply sunscreen). And don’t forget to patch test prior to commencing full product application to test for allergies.

What I Like About The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution.

  • It is budget friendly.
  • Well packaged in a UV-protected glass bottle (to protect the liquid from sunlight which is known to instigate product oxidation).
  • It is potent and effective.
  • It is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores), although it’s best advised to perform a patch test prior to commencing full product application.
  • It contains no skin-toxic ingredients or chemicals.

What I Dislike About The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution.

  • Feels slightly greasy on the skin – if you’re on the oily skin side (just like me), you may find The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution  slightly greasy on your skin during application, due to the presence of propanediol, which is a solvent and humectant which is used to dissolve skincare ingredients and also hydrates the skin. But know that this vitamin C serum absorbs without leaving a greasy feeling behind, the trick to this is to ensure you apply as little as 2-3 drops of it on a slightly moist or damp (not dripping wet) face. This won’t only increase product absorption rate, but also reduce the greasy feeling. Applying a moisturizer afterwards further counteracts the greasy-feeling too.

Possible Questions & Answers.

Q: How did you apply The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid vitamin C serum?

A: I applied The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid vitamin C serum everyday both morning (AM) and night (PM).

Immediately after cleansing my skin with my facial cleanser (ZapZyt Acne Wash Cleanser), I pat (not rub) my face with a clean towel (I don’t towel dry), while my face is moist or damp, I plunge ahead to applying 2-3 drops of The Ordinary ethylated ascorbic acid-based serum to my skin while I massage till fully absorbed. Then I go ahead to apply my moisturizer (Isntree Green Tea Fresh Emulsion).

If it’s during the day, I apply my sunscreen (Missha Aqua Sun Gel SPF50+), to protect my skin from the wicked UV rays of the sun.
