Ever since the day I used hyaluronic acid serum on my skin, I immediately fell in love with it. That stuff is really a drink for the skin. For the past years I have been consistently using The Ordinary Hyaluronic acid serum and I love the intense hydration effect it delivers to my skin, I absolutely love the feeling, but due to the enormous competition in the beauty industry, another hyaluronic acid product has gotten my attention and that’s Hadalobo Gokujyum Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion, made in Japan. So, I have decided to put this product to the test and give my take and review on it. But before we proceed let’s know more about the Hada Lobo brand.
About Hada Lobo Brand.
Hada Labo (which translates as “Skin Laboratory”) is a skincare range developed by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Rohto.
Rohto Pharmaceutical Company Ltd is a leading manufacturer of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products in Japan. This reputable skincare brand was launched in 2004 and ever since then, they have been known and recognized. Beauty lovers very quickly embraced the brand, and Hada Labo has proven to be a success with its Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion becoming the No. 1 Face Lotion in Japan, in which more than 30 million bottles were sold.
Hadalobo Gokujyum Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion contains 5 different types of hyaluronic acid with different molecular weight to deeply penetrate into the skin for an adequate hydration in the deeper layers of the skin. It also contains other skin hydrating humectants like glycerin and diglycerin for more added intense moisture.
These 5 types of hyaluronic acid contained in this formula are explained below:
- Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate: This is a type of hyaluronic acid also called Super Hyaluronic Acid, which is used in various cosmetics. Sodium acetylated hyaluronate has a fresh and not-sticky feeling that can provide superb moisturizing, repair skin barrier, improve skin elasticity, and leave skin smooth.
- Sodium Hyaluronate: This is a derivative of hyaluronic acid. It’s a salt form or version of HA which has a low molecular weight. It’s small enough to penetrate the epidermis, or top layer of the skin. In turn, it can improve hydration from the underlying skin layers.
- Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid (Nano Hyaluronic Acid): This is also a lower molecular version which is chemically extracted from hyaluronic acid. As regards to having small molecular weight, this form of HA, also penetrates deep into the skin dermis to supply intense hydration.
- Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate : A version of HA also known as “skin absorbent type hyaluronic acid” due to its low molecular weight that enables it sink into the skin to deliver hydration.
- Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer: This is non-animal derived hyaluronic acid, also known as “3D hyaluronic acid”, which is derived from sugar for replenishing skin of lost moisture and hydration.
Hadalobo Gokujyum Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion comes in a squeezable plastic container for easy dispensing and usage.
All you have to do is, unclip the top cover, and gently squeeze out the amount of drops you would want to use.
Note: You have to be careful as sometimes you may dispense a lot more than you want.
The texture is thick and gel-like, just like normal hyaluronic acid serums are, but it absorbs and sinks in quickly into the skin without leaving a greasy, sticky or tacky feeling behind.
When applied on the skin it spreads and glides effortlessly across the skin surface just like a snail slime.
Don’t be fooled by the term “lotion”, because Hada Labo Lotion is more like an essence, toner or serum-kind of consistency (but thicker), it’s a kind of liquid moisturizing treatment with a slightly thicker texture.
In Japan, most Japanese toners are translated as “lotion” on the Japanese packaging, which can be misleading to those new to Japanese skincare products.
It has no smell, as it’s totally fragrance-free.

My Review On Hadalobo Gokujyum Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion.
I have been using this hyaluronic acid lotion for the past two weeks and four days now, and honestly speaking this formula has won a special place in my heart. For the fact it deeply hydrates my skin without feeling heaviness or making my skin feel
weighed-down makes me love it even the more.
After applying this formula I don’t feel the need to apply a moisturizer anymore lol. (But I still apply my moisturizer) because hyaluronic acid pulls moisture from the environment to your skin and when not coated with a moisturizer (containing emollients and occlusives) then those moisture are going to evaporate. Bottom line is; you have to apply a moisturizer after applying your hyaluronic acid formula.
I apply this formula immediately after cleansing, I simply squeeze out 2-4 drops into the palm of my hand and smear it all over my face, before proceeding with other of my skincare products, my skin feels so hydrated and happy. I wake up every morning with supple, plump and hydrated skin.
I make sure to apply Hadalobo Gokujyum Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion on a damp or moist skin, because that’s the only way to reap the full benefits of hyaluronic acid. When hyaluronic acid comes it contact with water it retains the water into your skin thereby hydrating your skin. That’s why it’s called the” moisture magnet”.
If applied on a dry skin, it pulls any residual moisture from the deeper layers of the skin to hydrate the surface which will leave your skin even more dehydrated.
So therefore, once you’ve cleansed your face avoid toweling off completely. Then apply you’re hyaluronic formula, that way hyaluronic acid knows what it’s doing and ends up supremely keeping your skin hydrated and plumped.
This hyaluronic acid lotion has a thick texture, but it never feels heavy on my skin, upon I have an oily skin type. To be honest I was very much skeptical and apprehensive at first before I summoned courage to purchasing and applying this product on my skin because of the fact I have an oily skin and the product is said to be thick in texture. So, I thought it will feel heavy on my skin, probably lead to pore congestion and acne breakouts, but none of that happened.
Rather It felt light-weight and intensively hydrating on my skin, although I was using a little (2-4 drops). a little goes along way. So, I think it’s going to be very suitable for your oily skin too, just ensure you apply a little (on a moist or damp skin), but individuals with dry skin type are going to enjoy this formula even the more.
When applied on my skin, it absorbs and sinks in quickly without leaving any trace of residue or tacky feeling behind. Unlike some hyaluronic acid formulas which only sits on the top layer of the skin leaving an intense tacky-feeling behind, this formula doesn’t. Because it contains 5 different types of hyaluronic acid, some penetrates deeply into the skin while some hydrates the outer layer of the skin.
I’m never going to run out of stock for this product, it will always and permanently remain in my skincare routine. Not to mention it comes in a 170ml large container size which will last longer (about 3-4 months).
What I Like About Hadalobo Gokujyum Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion.
- It’s pocket friendly.
- It’s non-sticky and greasy.
- Comes in a large container size (170ml).
- Absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue or tacky feeling.
- Contains 5 different hyaluronic acid for adequate hydration.
What I Dislike About Hadalobo Gokujyum Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion.
- This product contains paraben (Methylparaben) as a preservative, to prolong shelf life by preventing bacteria and fungus growth.
Many people don’t really like parabens because of its potential of causing possible irritations. But since I have been using this formula I have never encounter any sort of irritation. So, if you’re ok with parabens, that’s good. But if you’re not, it’s totally fine and understandable, you can try other hyaluronic acid serums.
- Every single word on the container is written in japanese, which makes it hard for English speaking people to read.
