After exhausting my previous moisturizer which is the PURITO Oat-In Calming Gel Cream, I decided to hunt down another interesting moisturizer, and the Soon Jung Hydro Barrier Cream was introduced to me by a friend who swears by it.
Going through the ingredients list, I discovered it indeed contains skin-barrier-preserving ingredients which earns it the title “barrier cream“. So, I went ahead and purchased the moisturizer, I’ve dedicatedly used it for three weeks, and I think it’s a good time to share my honest review about this skin-barrier-protecting cream, but before I pull the trigger, let’s know more about the Soon Jung brand and also what a barrier cream is.
About The Brand.
Soon Jung brand is an affordable Korean skincare brand, based in South Korea, from ETUDE HOUSE, which is known for their production of gentle and non-irritating skin care products suitable for sensitive skin.
What’s A Barrier Cream?
Barrier creams or moisturizers are skincare products that contain humectant, emollient or occlusive ingredients that protect the skin barrier when it’s applied on the skin, by forming a breathable barrier on the skin which protects the skin from irritating acids that could impair or damage skin on the long run.
Soon Jung Hydro Barrier Cream.
A skin barrier-strengthening moisturizer, packed with 92.2% hydrating ingredients such as panthenol (vitamin B5), madecassoside which is derived from centella asiatica (cica) and green tea extract, not only to keep the skin moisturized and barrier preserved, but also soothe the skin, fasting up healing and restoration process, thus keeping the skin in good shape.
Note: Soon Jung Hydro Barrier Cream was recently enhanced, by adding more skin hydrating, soothing and moisturizing ingredients. A handful of ingredients have also been removed to further reduce any potential for irritation.
The prominent ingredients used in the formulation of this moisturizer will be briefly explained below:
- Glycerin: A skin hydrating humectant, which draws moisture from the air to deeply hydrate the skin. It also soothes skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis and to help heal wounds resulting from cracked skin.
- Propanediol: A colorless liquid that is derived from corn (and can also be made in a laboratory). This skincare humectant-ingredient is used to dissolve skincare ingredients and also hydrates the skin.
- Panthenol: (Also known as pro vitamin B5). As a great skin moisturizing and conditioning ingredient, panthenol helps keep the skin intensely hydrated as it decreases transepidermal water loss (water that evaporates through the skin). Products containing just 1% of panthenol can rapidly hydrate skin, resulting in a more supple feel and appearance.
- Madecassoside: This is an active ingredient derived from centella asiatica (cica) and is popularly used in many skin care products and moisturizers. It is known to combat different skin issues like inflammation and redness and enhance skin quality. Madecassoside acts as a repairing agent for skin.
Packaging.
Soon Jung Hydro Barrier Cream comes in a jar container packaging, properly sealed to avoid content spillage.
It comes with a small spatula of which you can use to scoop the product content prior to application.
I commend the Soon Jung brand for making provision for that, because using fingers to scoop the cream will encourage the deposition of bacteria into the cream or moisturizer.
Texture.
Soon Jung Hydro Barrier Cream has a creamy texture which feels lightweight when applied on the skin and absorbs quickly without leaving any greasy residue behind but surely leaves the skin feeling intensely moisturized and protected.
When applied to your skin, you can literally feel your skin being protected and preserved, while staying moisturized.

My Honest Experience With Soon Jung Hydro Barrier Cream.
My three weeks experience with this moisturizer is what I would like to describe as “amazing“.
As previously stated, as a dedicated tretinoin-user, using Soon Jung Hydro Barrier Cream is one of the best decisions I have ever made. This moisturizer not only delivers that moisturizing-effect that the skin deserves, but also protects the skin from irritants and environmental aggressors, keeping the skin well moisturized, happy and healthy.
While using this barrier-preserving moisturizer alongside my tretinoin, I never encountered skin barrier damage, thanks to this moisturizer. Any time I smear this moisturizer on my face, my skin stays moisturized with my skin texture improved.
When applied on the skin, it glides effortlessly, thus making it easier to apply and it absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving the skin at its best. I never encountered any form of irritation such as redness, dryness or acne break-outs while using this moisturizer.
I took the liberty to carefully scrutinize the ingredients list of this product and I’m glad to know that it contains no potential pore-clogging ingredients, which puts this moisturizer on the suitable side for individuals with oily skin like myself.
