Previously, I have been using the likes of alpha arbutin (The Ordinary alpha arbutin serum), vitamin C (Timeless vitamin C serum) and azelaic acid (The Ordinary azelaic acid) to tackle my hyperpigmentation until I learnt about tranexamic acid and decided to give it a trial, since then, the rest is history. Infact, I fell in love with this skin brightening ingredient. I started with the Good Molecules Discoloration Correction Serum which faded dark spots on my cheek area and brightened my skin tone. Later on, I put the Inkey List Tranexamic Acid Night Treatment formula to the test. The good work (skin brightening) still continued.
This pretty convinced me that tranexamic acid is really meant for my skin. This wonderful hyperpigmentation-zapping skincare Ingredient has remained in my skincare routine till date. Just as usual, I was surfing the internet, (reddit) where I bumped into a post titled “ME+ Superdrug new items released“. When I clicked through it, I discovered a new brand called “SuperDrug Me+” had released some skincare products of which tranexamic acid serum is among.
I did some research particularly on the Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster and found it quite interesting. And coupled with it containing only tranexamic acid with no added active ingredients made me purchase it with zero hesitation. This is because I love skincare products with single-hero ingredients, so if the product should break me out, I’ll easily identify the culprit. Also skincare products with single-hero ingredients helps me easily navigate around my skincare routine on what my skin needs at every moment.
So, I hit the online store, made a purchase of the Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster, and put it to the test for four (4) weeks. Now it’s time to share my honest review with you guys. But before I pull the trigger, let’s know what tranexamic acid really is, for those who have been living in the cave (lol, just kidding).
What Is Tranexamic Acid?
Tranexamic acid is synthetically derived from the amino acid lysine. Traditionally, tranexamic acid is a drug used to treat heavy bleeding during the menstrual period. Tranexamic acid works by slowing the breakdown of blood clots, which helps to prevent prolonged bleeding. It belongs to a class of drugs known as antifibrinolytics.
But besides that, skincare scientists discovered its skin depigmenting potentials which helps tackle skin discoloration such as hyperpigmentation, by inhibiting melanocytes, thereby curbing excess production of melanin and simultaneously blocks the transfer of pigment from melanocytes to keratinocytes in the epidermis.

Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster.
A very simple formulation. Contains a 2.5% tranexamic acid in a serum formula to help tackle discoloration and brighten skin for healthier and brighter appearance. This serum contains only tranexamic acid, with no other added actives. So if you’re a fan of skincare products with single-hero ingredients (like I am), then this product should entice you.
Packaging.
Just like the regular skincare serum packaging, Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster comes well sealed in a tinted glass bottle with a dropper for dispensing product-content. It doesn’t come with a carton anyway.
Texture.
Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster has a transparent-liquid that has a lightweight texture (similar to hyaluronic acid serum, but lighter in texture), and when applied on the skin, it glides effortlessly and absorbs well without leaving any greasy feeling behind.
Size.
It comes in a 30ml size, which is normally the regular bottle size for serums.

My Honest Review On Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster.
As aforementioned, I love skincare products with one-active ingredients, to enable me easily fish out the culprit should Incase I break out, and also to easily use any skincare product needed by my skin at every given moment.
That said, upon knowing that Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster contains just tranexamic acid at 2.5% with no added actives made me plunge into purchasing it immediately.
This time, I want to put tranexamic acid alone to the test, as before using this formula, I was using Good Molecules Discoloration Correction Serum which contains 2% cetyl tranexamate mesylate (a tranexamic acid derivative), along with 4% niacinamide. You see? Tranexamic acid wasn’t used solo in the formulation, same goes with The Inkey List Tranexamic Acid Night Treatment which contains 2% tranexamic acid, 2% ascorbyl glucoside and 2% acai berry extract.
The fact is, as these aforementioned tranexamic acid formulas were great on my skin. I experienced a real glow effect. I could literally see my skin all brightened up with my hyperpigmentation faded to invisibility. But because these formulas paired tranexamic acid with other skin brightening ingredients, made me unsure if tranexamic was really the main chief behind the brightening effect I experienced. Well, I guess I’m about to find out, because I’ve laid my hands on a formula containing only tranexamic acid.
Now, back to the review, after dedicatedly using Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster for four (4) weeks, the result was………..WONDERFUL!. I could tell by the dark spot on my nose. It really faded.
I got the dark spot on my nose when I popped a pimple, it healed and left a scar behind, which I was about trying to eradicate with the Good Molecules Discoloration Correction Serum, but had to use Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster instead, just to test its efficacy, and it did a great job by specifically targeting the dark spot on my nose, improving its appearance and also slightly improving my overall skin complexion (nothing dramatic), without breaking me out or causing any sort of irritation.

Really, the good deeds of tranexamic acid continued on my skin. The glow, the radiance, the glamour, it was a great experience with this tranexamic acid serum. My skin was really happy with it and living its best life. But truth be told, the brightening effect wasn’t as intense as the one I got from using Good Molecules Discoloration Correction serum and Inkey List Tranexamic Acid Night Treatment, and the reason behind this is because of the added skin brightening ingredients to amplify tranexamic acid for more effective skin brightening result.
So, it’s best advised, if you want to tackle hyperpigmentation more effectively and brighten skin tone using tranexamic acid, then go for tranexamic acid formulas combined with other skin brightening or hyperpigmentation-hitting ingredients for optimum result. You can as well pair a single tranexamic acid contained product with other skin brightening products. Example, tranexamic acid and alpha arbutin, or tranexamic acid and vitamin C.
Even our experimental review with the combination of tranexamic acid and alpha arbutin on a hyperpigmented-affected area proved that using double hyperpigmentation-zapping ingredients fades hyperpigmentation more faster than using just one.
In Conclusion.
My experience with Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster was a great one, I don’t regret ever purchasing it. And I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking to fade hyperpigmentation and even out their skin tone for a brighter appearance. However as regards to this, tranexamic acid alone may not do a phenomenal job, therefore, it’s best to combine tranexamic acid with other skin brightening or hyperpigmentation-hitting ingredients such as vitamin C, alpha arbutin, azelaic acid, niacinamide, licorice extract for even more optimal result. All thanks to tranexamic acid ingredient-friendliness. As it’s synergistic with all skincare ingredients.

A: I used Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster at night-time only, but it can as well be used during the day but ensure to wear sunscreen to protect skin from UV rays exposure.
Below is how I use the Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster.
- Step 1: I cleanse my skin with a skin-suitable facial cleanser (ZapZyt Acne Wash Cleanser).
- Step 2: I pat (not rub) my face with a clean towel.
- Step 3: I apply hyaluronic acid serum for hydration or a hydrating toner, (sometimes I skip this step, it’s optional).
- Step 4: I plunge ahead to applying 3-4 drops of Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster. I gently massage till fully absorbed,
- Step 5: Then I seal in with a moisturizer (CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Cream). Sometimes I use Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream or Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser. I love playing around my moisturizers.
Q: Did you experience any sort of irritation with Superdrug Me+ Tranexamic Acid Booster?
A: Absolutely not. I enjoyed the skin brightening and hyperpigmentation fading benefit of tranexamic acid without any side effects. And that’s a huge plus, if you ask me.
